1806 draped bust half dollar, PCGS
AU-58. O-115a. Pointed 6, stem through claw. Brilliant and
lustrous with plenty of eye appeal. The satiny surfaces are free of
marks of any consequence, and it is hard to detect any evidence of
circulation. (Indeed, some might call this coin brilliant uncirculated,
with slight evidence of striking weakness on the high points of the hair
curls.) This is the variety with the boldly repunched T and Y in
LIBERTY. It is from a late state of the obverse die, with a prominent
crack through the date and the stars on the left. There is evidence of
die clashing on both sides, most obviously above Liberty's chest on the
obverse, and through OF on the reverse. From the Douglas L.
Noblet collection (sold by Bowers & Merena in January 1999, lot
12). Price: $3,600. SOLD.
